Why I Joined the First Ladies of Poverty Foundation (FLP): I grew up in a single parent home. I experienced poverty and watched my dad work 3 jobs until he could provide better. I know what it's like to not have utilities, running water, and food.I suffered various forms of abuse and silently battled depression well into adulthood. I was a teen mom at 16 and was told I had ruined my entire life. My mental and emotional support came from a social worker, my best friend's mom, and my school registrar. I graduated valedictorian at 17. I went to college and in my senior year and made a [less-than-ideal] decision that resulted in me serving an 8-month state jail sentence. At this time, I was pregnant with my second child. I never would've imagined I would get myself into such a mess. I returned to complete my last semester and received my Bachelor's degree at age 25. Shortly after, I realized I'd gotten myself into something that was going to be difficult to get out of, a toxic marriage. God gave me the strength to persevere and the passion to live life differently and to teach my children to be better. Somehow I became an inspiration to other women and motivation that they can also turn their negative into something positive. If you believe you can achieve. I [joined FLP Foundation] to empower [people] of color to transition from a scarcity mindset to a wealth mindset. I plan to do this simply by providing the financial education that has not been readily available to those of African descent. I want to transform the mindset regarding tax code, credit, and money management. I want to join the movement of breaking the generational curse of financial bondage and create a trend of legacy building.
